your team can and should be greater than the sum of the parts. 

early in life, i was lucky to be on some great teams, from sports teams to the very first customer service organization at apple. i leveraged these experiences to build outstanding teams of my own throughout my retail and tech start-ups. what has helped me is being clear on my own values, focusing on the people, and building culture with intention.
